Every full groom at CatDog is done start to finish by the same groomer, in a salon that takes one pet at a time in the grooming area. Nothing is rushed and nothing is added to your bill without you knowing.

Grooming by coat type, not by guesswork
A Poodle coat and a Husky coat need opposite treatments. Using the wrong technique is how dogs end up matted, itchy or with a coat that never grows back the same. This is what changes in the salon depending on what your dog is wearing.
Curly and wool coats
Doodles, Poodles, Bichons. They mat close to the skin, so they need line brushing and honest advice about clipper length when the coat is already tight.
Double coats
Huskies, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds. We de-shed and blow out the dead undercoat instead of shaving, because shaving a double coat damages how it regrows.
Silky long coats
Shih Tzus, Yorkies, Maltese. Face, ears and feet are the areas that make or break the look, so they get scissor work and a hygiene trim that keeps eyes clear.
Short and smooth coats
Beagles, Pit Bulls, Boxers. They shed more than owners expect. A de-shed bath plus a good blow-out removes an impressive amount of loose hair from your house.
Nervous, senior or first-time dogs
A dog that is scared of the salon is not a difficult dog, it is a dog that had a bad experience somewhere. Tell us in advance and we plan the appointment around it.
- We book nervous dogs at quieter times of day, not between two other dogs.
- We can split the work into shorter sessions instead of forcing one long one.
- Senior dogs get to sit, and we prioritise comfort over a perfect show trim.
- We never sedate, and we stop and call you if a dog is telling us it has had enough.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a full dog groom take?
Most full grooms take two to three hours depending on size, coat condition and how your dog handles the dryer. A matted coat takes longer because de-matting has to be done slowly and safely. We give you an honest estimate when you book.
Do you groom aggressive or very anxious dogs?
We groom anxious dogs every week and we plan the appointment around them, with quieter times and shorter sessions. We do not sedate. If a dog is a real risk to itself or to the groomer we will tell you honestly and suggest a vet assisted option instead of pushing through.
My dog is badly matted. Will you have to shave him?
Sometimes yes, and we will tell you before we start. De-matting a tight coat pulls on the skin and can cause more pain than a short haircut. We always explain the options, show you the areas involved and let you decide.
How often should my dog be groomed?
Curly and long coats usually need a full groom every four to six weeks, plus brushing at home. Double coated and short haired dogs do well with a de-shedding bath every six to eight weeks. We tell you what fits your specific dog at the first visit.
Do you serve towns outside Lowell?
Yes. Clients come to us from Dracut, Chelmsford, Tewksbury, Billerica and Westford, all within roughly 10 to 20 minutes of the salon. Free parking at the door.
